I have over 18 years of drumming experience, with more than 15 years playing in bands. I have taught drumming to individuals of all ages, recorded 7 albums, toured Canada and the Northeastern United States, and performed in front of thousands of people.
Anyone can learn to play the drums, you just need to be shown how and to allow 30-45 min a day for working on lesson material.
Drum Lessons in Downtown Toronto
I offer drum lessons in a uniquely comfortable and relaxed home atmosphere, that is non-intimidating and very enjoyable for learning. Downbeat Drum Studio is located just west of the downtown core, near Queen St. W. and Dufferin St.
Lessons focus on:
- Drumming basics (i.e., timing, feel, song structure and dynamics and other foundational skills….Basically the meat and potatoes of drumming that makes other musicians enjoy playing with you)
- Advanced skills, such as rhythmical music theory, Snare drum rudiments and rolls, fills, double-bass drumming, and odd meters
- Different styles of music, based on student interest (i.e., rock, country, metal, funk, soul, blues)
- Ear training and reading skills
- Improvisation
Lessons are highly flexible and we can discuss your goals with you, we can also cater our lessons to your interests.
Beyond drumming skills i also teach you to make the most of your practices (do more in less time), play with other musicians in a band, record and play to a click-track, tuning your own drums, learning the skills to perform live and to tour.
Lessons are $45 per hour/$25 per half hour and are sold in blocks of 4 lessons. I schedule lessons weekly or bi-weekly per student.
